LexPoMo 2015 Selections for Anthology

The following poems have been chosen to be included in the upcoming anthology of Lexington Poetry Month 2015 poems! Our editor for the anthology (and Editor for Accents Publishing), Christopher McCurry, picked a poem from everyone who submitted this year. Once again, we can’t thank you enough for participating and making this the biggest LexPoMo yet, and even though it seemed like it just happened, we can’t wait to have you all back next year!

Poets are listed alphabetically by first name or pseudonym. If you submitted a poem and don’t see yourself, contact us by clicking here. If you would like to see all submissions for LexPoMo 2015, you can check those out here. Continue reading

Update: Due to technical difficulties, the submissions for the LexPoMo Writing Challenge will open up at 6AM instead of the aforementioned midnight. I apologize for short notice and appreciate your patience.

Make sure that cookies are enabled. If you’re unsure of how to enable cookies for your web browser, check out this tutorial at WikiHow. Some browsers treat cookies in strange ways, so if you get logged out, just log back in.

After you sign in, you should be taken to your dashboard where you’ll be able to see all of the poems you’ve submitted so far. As of right now, there are areas of the dashboard that will eventually show poems that you’ve liked, poets that you are following, and recent submissions from poets that you are following. Right now, those features haven’t been implemented, but stay tuned.

At the upper right-hand corner is a link that will take you to a submission page. You will find a modest text editor that will allow you to edit your poem however you see fit. You may notice that it doesn’t have as many options as in the past, but those features are also on the way.

After you submit a poem, you’ll be redirected to the front page where you can see that your poem has been posted. If you’d like, you can click on the link to view all poets and you’ll see that all of your poems are listed under your name.

If you find any other bugs or glitches, please don’t hesitate to let me know. You can email me by clicking here or by filling out this form on our “About” page. Currently, there is only one administrator on the site, but I promise that I will reply to all emails in a timely manner.

A few other issues to note:

  • You will be unable to edit your poems, so double (and triple) check them before clicking “Submit Poem”. We believe that the real beauty of the LexPoMo Writing Challenge is in reading your most honest poetry, not your most polished.
  • Comments require a sign-in. I apologize for this oversite, but it has to do with WordPress’s commenting system.
  • Other features will be coming soon, such as the ability to add images to your poem or changing your profile picture. We will notify people in the official Writing Challenge Facebook page, so be sure to follow that page and sign up for notifications.

If you haven’t signed up yet, you have until midnight tonight. And thank you so much for signing up. Without your support, none of this would be possible!

Lexington Poetry Month is Two Weeks Away

Lexington Poetry Month 2015Lexington Poetry Month was created by Hap Houlihan and Katerina Stoykova-Klemer to get Lexington, Kentucky writing and sharing poetry for the entire month of June.

Since we’ve already signed up 68 poets (at the time of this write-up), many of you already know about Accents Publishing’s LexPoMo Writing Challenge, but if you don’t, it’s a great way to exercise your writing skills in a warm, supportive community.

This Wretched VesselYour goal in the Writing Challenge is to write a poem every day throughout the month of June. Then you build up the courage to submit your poem to the Accents Blog. Putting your work into the public is never easy, so you don’t have to submit everything (although the most honest, raw poems usually get the most comments). But if you submit at least five poems during those thirty days, then one of them will be picked for publication in an anthology from Accents Publishing. We have already published two anthologies, Her Limestone Bones and This Wretched Vessel, all of which were originally submitted to the Accents Blog.

And the LexPoMo Writing Challenge wouldn’t be possible without the support of some amazing sponsors. You can view them all on our sponsors page, as well as our special funders who have purchased a banner that will be shown at the top of the blog throughout the month of June. All of our sponsors are community-minded organizations that we have personally sought out, and if you could visit our Sponsors page and show them some support, we’d really appreciate it.

Sign ups are open until May 31st at 11:59pm, so be sure to sign up (by clicking here) sooner rather than later, and you can also check out everyone else who’s signed up by clicking here.

Lexington Poetry Month Writing Challenge 2015

The sign-ups have officially started for the 2015 Lexington Poetry Month Writing Challenge! Just click here.

For those who don’t know, June is Lexington Poetry Month (or “LexPoMo” as the kids might say). LexPoMo was founded by Hap Houlihan and Katerina Stoykova-Klemer in 2013 as a month-long community-wide celebration of poetry, and June was officially declared “Lexington Poetry Month” by Mayor Jim Gray in 2013.

The LexPoMo Writing Challenge takes place on the Accents Blog and challenges everyone to write a poem every day during the month of June. That’s one new poem every single day! And if you want, you may submit that poem to be published on the Accents Blog. You don’t have to submit every day, but if you submit at least five poems, then one of your poems will be chosen to be printed in an annual anthology. Our first anthology, Her Limestone Bones, came out on April 15th, 2014. We will be having a release party for the newest anthology at The Carnegie Center on May 28.

So if you’d like to sign up for this year’s LexPoMo Writing Challenge, you can click here and fill out the information. If you’d like more information about the writing challenge, check out this page of Frequently Asked Questions. And if you’d like to see who’s already signed up, check out this page!

And if you have any questions—or would like us to mention a LexPoMo event you’ve planned—please don’t hesitate to contact us. You can write to the blog administrator, Bronson, by filling out a form on this page.
